Introduction
Built on the banks of the Pasig River, the Spanish Royal City, also known as the walled city, is one of Manila's historic landmarks. It was established in 1571 as a castle built by the Spanish to rule the Philippines. Covering an area of 1 square kilometer, it is also known as the "city within a city". The castle is surrounded by moats and medieval-style walls, with 7 city gates encircling it. Inside the city, there is the Governor's Palace and 12 churches. During World War II, much of the castle was destroyed, but some parts have been repaired and it now serves as an important place for visitors to experience history. Here, tourists can travel through time by riding in ancient carriages, strolling through streets, gates, and ports, and feeling the profound sense of history left by the passing of time. The castle has preserved the classical charm of Spain and is full of architectural features. Visitors can visit the Manila Cathedral, the largest church in Manila, as well as the St. Augustine Church and Museum, Casamana Museum, and more. Transportation Take the Light Rail Transit (LRT) to Intramuros and get off at United Nations station. From there, it's a 20-25 minute walk to Intramuros. Alternatively, you can take a jeepney to Bonifacio Drive.
