Introduction

Tianchi of Changbai Mountain is a lake located on the border between China and North Korea. It is situated at the top of a volcano and has formed a vast lake over millions of years. The water source of Tianchi includes atmospheric precipitation, surface runoff and groundwater. The lake covers an area of ​​9.82 square kilometers, with a water surface altitude of 2189.1 meters and an average depth of about 300 meters, with a water storage capacity of about 2.04 billion cubic meters. The average annual evaporation of the water surface is about 450 millimeters, and the annual precipitation is about 1333 millimeters. The temperature is extremely low, with an average temperature of about minus 11 degrees Celsius, making it the area with the lowest temperature, highest rainfall, and lowest evaporation in Jilin Province. The lake surface begins to freeze in early December each year and thaws in mid-June of the following year. Tianchi of Changbai Mountain is one of the largest, deepest and highest volcanic lakes in the world, and was awarded the Guinness World Record of the highest volcanic lake in 2000.
