Introduction
The Xiangyang City is located on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Han River and is an important cultural heritage site under state protection in China. It is surrounded by water on three sides and backed by a mountain, with the characteristics of being easy to defend and difficult to attack, which has been valued by strategists throughout the ages. According to research, Xiangyang City was first built in 201 BC and was located on the northwestern bank of the Han River in today's Xiangyang Ancient City. Around the time when Liu Biao moved the capital of Jingzhou to Xiangyang, a new city was built to the east of the city, which is roughly the size of the existing city. Since then, Xiangyang City has become the administrative center of the state, county, and prefecture, and has been used until the Tang Dynasty when it was abandoned due to the construction of a dam by Zhang Jianzhi. The city has been submerged by the Han River in recent times. During the Song Dynasty, Xiangyang City was rebuilt with bricks, and the military style of the gate was replaced by the jar-shaped gate. The entire city is about 1.6 kilometers long from north to south and about 1.4 kilometers wide from east to west. During the Ming Dynasty, when the ancient city was being repaired, the Han River moved northward on the south bank, so the northeast corner of the city was expanded to strengthen its defensive capabilities, making the circumference of the city reach 7.3 kilometers and the area reach 2.5 square kilometers. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the city was repeatedly damaged by floods, but after numerous repairs, it has been preserved to this day.
