Introduction
Memphis, an ancient city in Lower Egypt, is located in the village of Badrshinah, 30 kilometers southwest of Cairo. According to legend, this city was built by the first pharaoh of Egypt, Menes, and became the capital of the first nome of Lower Egypt, Men-nefer. Since the Old Kingdom period, Memphis has been the capital of Egypt, except for the eleventh and twelfth dynasties. However, in the New Kingdom period, this city was replaced by Thebes.
Among the more than 80 pyramids in Egypt, most of them are concentrated in Giza, Saqqara, and Memphis. Memphis is also known as the White City and was renamed Memphis after Menes unified Egypt.
