Introduction

- Shantang Street is a historic street located in the center of Suzhou, stretching from Changmen to Tiger Hill, with a total length of about seven li. - This street was built more than 1100 years ago by the famous Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi, who was serving as the governor of Suzhou, with funds raised from the public. - During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Shantang Street was one of the most prosperous commercial and cultural areas in China, earning it the reputation as "the first ancient street in China" and "a miniature of old Suzhou and a window to Wu culture." - There is a folk song about this street, which goes: "Heaven is above, Suzhou and Hangzhou are both great places. Hangzhou has West Lake, Suzhou has Shantang. Both have stunning scenery, which makes people amazed." - Especially at night, Shantang Street has a unique charm and is suitable for taking photos. You can also visit a tea house to taste tea, listen to Pingtan (a type of Suzhou storytelling and ballad singing), and experience traditional culture of ancient Suzhou.
