Introduction

Legend has it that there is a cave on Shilian Mountain that looks like a tiger's open mouth, which is considered unlucky by locals. Therefore, a temple named Shilian Temple was built at the entrance of the cave. The prayer flags in front of the temple flutter in the wind, and many miraculous plants resembling lotus flowers grow on the stone walls on both sides of the path from the foot of the mountain to the temple. From the top of Shilian Temple, one can overlook the ancient city of Shuhe, making it a popular destination for sightseeing. During the Republic of China period, many people often gathered around a fire to read and discuss literature, forming the tradition of "Shilian Night Reading."
