Introduction

Gaoligong Mountain is located on the west bank of the Nu River and is an important component of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its name, "gong", means "mountain" in the Jingpo language. Gaoligong Mountain spans five latitudinal zones and is the only area on Earth where large tracts of transitioning from humid tropical to temperate forests are preserved. It is home to various rare wildlife and plants and is one of the origins for the Eight Famous Flowers of Yunnan. The area's big tree rhododendron, praised as the "King of Rhododendrons" around the world, blooms more than 40,000 flowers each year, leaving a deep impression on visitors. Furthermore, Gaoligong Mountain has numerous waterfalls, lakes, and hot springs, as well as breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and volcanic thermal pools, making it a beloved destination for photographers and hikers.
