Lishui Ancient Street, A timeless stroll along the lantern-lit promenade

Introduction

The reservoir embankment located on the eastern edge of Yantou village was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming dynasty. Local clans at that time stipulated that only flowers, trees, and pavilions could be built on the embankment, and construction of houses and commercial activities were not allowed. Today, Lishui Street has become a relatively large commercial street in Yantou village with a total length of more than 300 meters and about 90 storefronts. It also has a tourist shopping center that specializes in selling local specialties from Nanxi.
The south end of the ancient street is the south gate of the village wall. Above the gate, there is a pavilion named Fengteng. Within 50 meters from the pavilion, there is also an imperial pavilion with a double-eave roof and a simple yet solemn style. The houses all have eaves to provide convenience for pedestrians shielding from the sun and rain. Lishui ancient bridges connect the two pavilions, creating a beautiful scenery line in the commercial area of Lishui.
