Introduction
Xiaogongyuan is the cultural and commercial center of the old urban area of Shantou. Its arcade and streets are distributed in a fan-shaped manner, imitating the style of Parisian blocks. Together with the old neighborhoods of "Si Yong Yi Sheng Ping" on both sides, and the surrounding areas of "Yanchengtou", "Hongting" and "Shantou Port", it has formed a bustling commercial and residential area in the architectural style of the 1930s. Among them, the department store building was the "Nansheng Company" funded and built by the original Overseas Chinese Group in 1932, which was the second tallest building in Shantou at that time and one of the iconic buildings of old Shantou.
Narrowly defined, Xiaogongyuan only refers to the area where the Zhongshan Memorial Pavilion is located, while broadly speaking it includes the surrounding blocks such as Anping Road, Shengping Road, and Guoping Road, collectively known as the Xiaogongyuan Historical and Cultural District.
