Introduction

The Gaochang Ancient City is the largest ancient city ruins in Xinjiang, built in the first century BC and became the political, economic and cultural center of the Turpan Basin in 450 AD. Since the 9th century, it became the capital of the Gaochang Uighur Kingdom and the largest international trade and religious center in the Western Regions. Even though the ancient city has turned into ruins, it still inspires awe and reflection on its rise and fall, as well as the historical changes it witnessed. When visiting the Gaochang Ancient City, please do so in a civilized manner, protect cultural relics, do not touch or damage them, and preserve these historical sites for longer.

Transportation

43km away from Turpan city, it is best to charter a Santana car for 300 yuan per day; Take the Turpan to Shanshan bus from Turpan Bus Station to Shengjinri and transfer to a local three-wheeled motorcycle to Gaochang Ancient City (Turpan-Shengjinkou for 5 yuan and Shengjinkou-Gaochang for 5 yuan).
