Introduction

The Liujiaxia Reservoir in the upper reaches of the Yellow River is located 1 kilometer southwest of Yongjing County, Gansu Province, and 75 kilometers from Lanzhou. Built in 1974, it was the first large-scale hydropower project independently designed, constructed, and built during China's first Five-Year Plan. Situated in a highland gorge, the reservoir is known as the "pearl of the plateau" for its magnificent scenery. The Liujiaxia Hydropower Station not only generates electricity and helps prevent flooding, but also provides tourists with the opportunity to cruise and enjoy the scenery of the upper reaches of the Yellow River. Due to the dam's blocking effect, the water flow slows down, the yellow sand settles, and the lake surface in the reservoir area is vast and the environment is elegant, making it an excellent ecotourism destination. Tourists usually visit the power generation unit of the Liujiaxia Reservoir first, and then take a boat ride to enjoy the beauty of the upper reaches of the Yellow River, all the way to the Bingling Temple Grottoes, which is also a must-see attraction.
