Introduction

The China Woodcut Museum and its new building, also known as the "Twin Museum," are located in the western part of the new city in Yangzhou, adjacent to a charming artificial lake and across from the Yangzhou International Exhibition Center. The architectural design of the Twin Museum reflects the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature and the integration of architecture and nature. The predecessor of the Twin Museum was the Yangzhou Museum, which was founded in 1951 and included the "Cultural Relics Museum" and the "Northern Jiangsu Museum." Over the past 50 years, the Yangzhou Museum has continuously developed and has a rich collection with distinctive local features, especially in the Han and Qing dynasties. The museum now has more than 30,000 cultural relics in 18 categories, including ceramics, jade, metal, calligraphy and painting, lacquerware, bamboo and wood, bone and horn, epitaphs and stone carvings. Among them, there are over 50 first-class items, more than 300 second-class items, and over 1,000 third-class items. The Jingdezhen blue and white dragon plum vase from the Yuan Dynasty is the museum's treasure, attracting a large number of experts and scholars. In August 2003, the China Woodcut Museum was established by the State Council, and the 300,000 ancient book block prints collected by the Yangzhou Guangling Book Society were merged into the Yangzhou Museum, forming the "Twin Museum." The Twin Museum began construction in October 2003 and was officially completed on April 18, 2005, during the "March Fireworks International Economic and Trade Tourism Festival." As a landmark building in the cultural field of the cultural city, the Twin Museum showcases the city's development ideas of promoting cultural prosperity and building a harmonious society, and also marks a milestone in the development of the Yangzhou Museum.
