The lake is 3 miles long, 1 mile wide, and reaches a depth of 72 feet. The lake water flows into the River Derwent from Borrowdale head. Derwent Water has a rich history and literary background, and people believe that its scenery is filled with special emotions, from the dramatic scenes of waves crashing on Friar's Crag pushed by the south wind, to the absolute calmness of the early morning, like a mirror.
