Introduction

The ruins of the Palace of Knossos are a famous archaeological site from the Minoan period on the island of Crete, which was once the capital of the island. According to myth, it was here that King Minos imprisoned the legendary creature, the Minotaur. The first palace was built around 1900 BC but was destroyed by an earthquake. The Palace of Knossos was later rebuilt, becoming even grander and more elaborate. From 1500 BC to 1450 BC, the palace was destroyed again but people still lived there for 50 years. Finally, it was completely destroyed by a fire. The reconstructed remains by Evans are an important part of this magnificent palace.
