A place with the Olympic Flame
4.3

Introduction

In the Baku region, oil and gas resources are plentiful, with large amounts of natural gas directly bubbling up from underground. Once ignited, it creates a long-lasting flame, which early observers believed to be a miracle. The word "Ateshgah" comes from Persian, meaning "fire temple," and it is a place for worshiping the sacred fire. However, the gods worshipped here are actually from the Hindu sect of Shiva. The construction of this place is very ancient, and it has been destroyed many times during wars, but it has been rebuilt time and time again. Today, the castle-like buildings we see are mainly relics from the 18th century.
