Green Island Human Rights Memorial & Cultural Park, A Solemn Journey Through Human Rights History
4
Introduction
The origin of this park can be traced back to two political prisons during Taiwan's White Terror period: the Taiwan Provincial Security Command's Freshman Training and Guidance Office and the Ministry of National Defense's Green Island Reeducation Through Labor prison. The long corridor of historical change and the prison space for political prisoners deeply understand the importance of human rights. The Green Island Human Rights Cultural Park has a total area of about 32 hectares, including Jiangjun Rock, Human Rights Memorial Park, Oasis Villa, Zhuangjing Camp (Freshman Training and Guidance Office), Green Island Skills Training Institute, and Swallow Cave. The park reproduces the history of human rights violations and lack of democracy and freedom, allowing visitors to experience life without freedom in person. Visitors can also learn about the stories of the era. After several renamings and changes in management, the park has been declared a cultural landscape heritage according to the Cultural Assets Preservation Law. Opening hours 08:00-17:30
