Introduction

The Gudauta Buddha Tower, not far from Lishan Daimuni Temple, was built in 1857. Its full name is the Mahaloka Maharojana Buddha Tower, also known as the "largest merit Buddha tower in the world" by the Burmese people. King Mindong invited 2,400 senior monks to complete the fifth Buddhist sutra revision conference when it was completed. The revised sutras were engraved in Pali script on 729 marble tablets, and white small Buddha towers were subsequently built around each tablet, which is quite spectacular. Because the contents of these sutras are extensive and the quantity is large, they are known as "the largest book in the world." In addition to the white Buddha tower group that holds the scriptures, Gudauta also has a red and gold entrance made of pomelo wood, and carvings of Buddhist legends and deities. There is even a 118-year-old ancient tree, which has become a major landscape in Gudauta.
