Introduction

This pagoda was built by the Burmese king Anawrahta and is different from other towers in that it has a square basement with a Buddha niche inside. Over 500 murals are preserved inside the tower, recording the legends of the Mon people. Each window features a unique hollow-style carving, making the entire building more unique. Due to insufficient lighting, visitors need to bring a flashlight to appreciate the interior. The Gubyaukgyi Temple is not only an independent pagoda, but also forms a dense group of pagodas with many surrounding temples.
