Introduction

The Tarabam Gate is a historic gate built in 1050 located on the east side of Bagan city. It was built jointly by the then Bagan King Kunhsaw Kyaunghpyu and Kyiso, and is the only surviving gate in the city walls. Originally, there were twelve gates in Bagan, but only this eastern gate and the nearby remaining city walls remain. It is worth mentioning that there is a Buddha niche on each side of the gate, which houses a Buddha statue, but it can be easily overlooked if not carefully observed.
