Introduction

The Mingun ancient city is located on the upper reaches of the Irrawaddy River, 11 kilometers from the city center of Mandalay. Compared with the other three ancient cities, this city is the most remote from the urban area. At the beginning of its construction, it was selected and built by the sixth emperor of the Konbaung Dynasty, Bodawpaya, with the aim of promoting his possession of the true body of the Buddha statue and the achievements of revitalizing the country. He was proud of establishing friendly relations with the Qing Dynasty and successfully welcoming back the Cambodian bronze Buddha.
