Introduction
Pyathadar Temple, located in the middle south of the Bagan scenic area, has the largest terrace in Bagan and is a great place to watch the sunset. The temple was built by the son of King Kyansittha and King Sithu II and is one of the last great temples to be completed in Bagan. The bottom layer is a square structure with four transparent sides, and the corridor is designed with arches. Through the narrow east gate stairs, you can reach the spacious platform, with one tower at each of the four corners and high walls around. In the center of the second floor platform, there is a small Buddhist shrine, which contrasts sharply with the huge platform. Structurally, Pyathadar is very similar to the Sulamani Temple, indicating that the original design was a magnificent temple. However, King Kyansittha's financial resources were limited, so the temple was ultimately built in a relatively hurried manner, with the east gate destroyed and the large Buddha visible from afar. This temple has been restored with the help of Singapore.
