Introduction

The ancient city is located on the west bank of the Irrawaddy River in the southwest direction of Mandalay, and is situated on the Ava Bridge. During the period from the 1860s to 1864, it was the capital of the Shan Kingdom. The entire city is developed along the mountainous terrain, with greenery, and from the opposite bank of the river, pagodas and temples are quietly scattered among the forests.
