Introduction
The Botahtaung Pagoda Square is located in the center of Yangon, adjacent to Chinatown, and is the central point of the city extending outward. There is a precious pagoda in the Botahtaung Pagoda Square, which is named after the statue of the guardian of Shanmara's golden pagoda. The base of the pagoda is octagonal, and it also preserves Buddhist relics inside. Surrounding the pagoda are British-style buildings such as the City Hall, High Court, and Independence Monument, which seem like protective walls of the pagoda where tourists can visit to their heart's content.
Around the pagoda are also Burmese zodiac sculptures. Unlike China, Burmese zodiac signs are divided according to the day of the week instead of the month and there are eight zodiac signs. Except for Wednesday which has two zodiac signs in the morning and afternoon, each day has one zodiac sign. Tourists can first check the zodiac sign corresponding to their date of birth, then visit the pagoda to appreciate the unique culture of Myanmar. Opening hours 10:00-18:00
Transportation Take bus routes 37, 43, 45, 51, or 52 to Sule station, which is also the starting and ending point for many buses. You can also walk here from Chinatown or the Shwedagon Pagoda.
