Introduction
This temple is located 3 kilometers south of downtown Mandalay, famous for a 4-meter-tall bronze-gilded Buddha statue. The statue is said to have been consecrated by the Buddha himself and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. The temple has a huge pond where the pagoda is reflected in the water, which is very spectacular. The temple complex consists of various types of pagodas, including the common bell-shaped ones and the rare square-shaped, pyramid-like pagodas in the southern region of Myanmar. In the outer hall, there are three gongs and six bronze statues. Legend has it that if a couple repeats the same word three times after hearing the gongs, they are destined to be together.
The bronze statue is said to have been cast in the 12th century in Cambodia and was originally installed in Angkor Wat. After several relocations, it was finally brought back to Myanmar as a war trophy. Local people believe that rubbing the same part of their body and the statue can cure the disease. The corridor leading to the main hall is not only exquisitely carved but also inlaid with square-shaped jade stones under each column. In the center of the main hall is a golden Buddha statue, and many believers paste gold leaf on the statue to pray for blessings. Therefore, the statue has been completely covered with gold leaf, with a thickness of up to 16 cm at the thickest point. Address BoBahtoo road, between 82th street and 84th street
