Introduction

This reclining Buddha, originally an open-air sitting Buddha, is 20 meters long and 5.4 meters high, and has been extensively modified with Burmese jade to its current appearance. The glass eyes of the reclining Buddha are very lifelike, and its hands are resting on a pillow while its feet swaying back and forth. There are 108 squares and totems on the soles of the feet, each representing a different image from the six realms of samsara. Of these squares, 59 represent the human world, 21 represent the animal world, and 28 represent the world of gods, symbolizing that the Buddha has transcended the three realms of samsara and carries a profound meaning. The names of donors and the amount of their donations are recorded on the ceiling above the Buddha. If you don't have time to visit the largest reclining Buddha in Bago, Myanmar, this one is also worth seeing.
