Introduction

Located on Mount Shwe-Gon-Daing on the shore of Inya Lake, the Shwedagon Pagoda is an iconic building in Yangon and a must-visit for tourists, known as one of the "three major ancient monuments in Southeast Asia". The golden pagoda is open on all four sides, with two stone lions standing above the main entrance. Visitors must climb over a hundred steps of marble stairs to reach the platform where the main tower can be seen. The outer layer of the main tower is completely covered in gold leaf, with countless gemstones embedded at the top. There are also several other Buddha pagodas in different shapes and made with various materials such as gold-topped white walls, mosaic glass, and painted wood around the tower. The Shwedagon Pagoda also has a large room of about five to six hundred square meters, specifically for people to recite sutras and rest. Monks can be found reciting sutras during the day, and it serves as a shelter for the homeless at night. The scenic area also includes a museum that provides historical information about the pagoda, but it closes at 5:00 p.m. local time. At night, the Shwedagon Pagoda is illuminated by lights, making it even more spectacular.
