Introduction

San Martin Square in the Retiro district was named after the Argentine national hero, General San Martin, on the 100th anniversary of his birth. San Martin was born to a colonial official family and led the patriotic army to win independence for Argentina in the May Revolution. The equestrian statue of General San Martin on the square was created by French sculptor Louis-Joseph Daumas.

Get off at San Martin Station on Subway Line C, and you will arrive directly. Opposite the square is the Peace Palace, which is open from Monday to Friday. Sightseeing buses are also available.
