Introduction

Yuyuan is located in the northeast of Yuyuan Tourist and Commercial District in Shanghai, adjacent to the City God Temple and Yuyuan Tourist Mall. It is a classical garden in southern China, loved by tourists from home and abroad. In 1982, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council. Yuyuan was initially a private garden of a wealthy family during the Ming Dynasty, built between the Jiajing and Wanli years, with a history of more than 450 years. The owner of the garden, Pan Yunzheng, once served as the Sichuan Governor. Today, Yuyuan covers an area of about 2 hectares. The buildings in the garden are scattered and the mountains and rocks are rugged, reflecting the artistic style of the Jiangnan garden architecture in the Ming and Qing dynasties, which is delicate, exquisite, and thorough. Yuyuan also preserves many historical relics, such as the "Book Tower", which is the birthplace of "Haipai Book Painting", and the uprising command center of the Shanghai Knife Association, "Dianchun Hall", and so on. Famous figures throughout history have praised Yuyuan for its "wonderful and unparalleled" and "the crown of famous gardens in the southeast".
