Introduction
Kaiyuan Temple is located on Kaiyuan Road in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. It was first built in the 26th year of the Kaiyuan era (738) of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty. It was called "Kaiyuan Wanshou Chan Temple" in the Yuan Dynasty and renamed "Kaiyuan Zhengu Chan Temple" in the Ming Dynasty. In the late Qing Dynasty, it was also called "Kaiyuan Zhengu Chan Temple" and "Kaiyuan Temple". After many renovations over the years, the temple now covers an area of 20,000 square meters and still retains the Tang Dynasty's layout. It brings together the essence of architectural art from different periods, such as the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, and remains a popular religious site. However, during the "Cultural Revolution", the temple suffered serious damage. It was not until 1982 that donations from overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macao compatriots enabled Kaiyuan Temple to undergo a comprehensive renovation and once again shine with its past glory.
