Main Market Square
On the first day in Krakow, we were lucky enough to stumble upon a traditional Polish festival market. Without further ado, we quickly found the most popular stall and ordered Golonka (roasted pork knuckle), Polish sausage Kielbasa, chicken skewer Kebab, along with bread and potatoes. Highly recommend the roasted pork knuckle, which was perfectly cooked so that the meat easily separated from the bone with a slight pull of the fork. The taste was rich but not greasy, melting in the mouth, and the lean meat was tender without being dry. This meal cost 60 zloty, which was a bit pricey compared to the following meals, but the experience of sitting in the center of the Old Town Square gnawing on a pork knuckle was priceless. The chime of the clock startled a flock of pigeons, creating a scene too beautiful to behold.
Two people ordered an Officer's Platter, which included Polish sausage and Polish blood sausage, as well as grilled chicken liver, grilled chicken breast, grilled beef steak, and bacon, served with turmeric rice, potato wedges, and two types of salad. Everything was incredibly delicious! The portions were huge, and the price was very affordable (31 zloty). After the meal, a small glass of cherry liqueur was served. The location couldn't be better, right at the foot of Wawel Castle (which is also the name of the restaurant).
Wieliczka Salt Mine Restaurant
After taking the regular tourist route to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine, you will come to this underground restaurant. You need to queue up for food, giving it a cafeteria-like feel. We ordered a cabbage roll with meat and potatoes, and a cheese-stuffed chicken cutlet with fries. The prices are very cheap, but the taste is average. However, having a meal 130 meters underground is definitely something to brag about.
This restaurant is located in the former Jewish community of Kazimierz and is quite cozy. The fried mushrooms I ordered were very delicious, and the pork chop was flavorful but a bit dry.
Smakolyki Restaurant
This restaurant is located near Jagiellonian University and is a great place for students to gather. We went there twice. The first time, both of us ordered their set meal, which includes a choice of meat or fish with two side dishes. It only costs 17 zloty. Yes! You read that right! Only 17!! The second time, I had the long-awaited rye soup Zurek, which has a sour taste that I really like, but those with conservative tastes should not try it lightly. Also, try the Hungarian beef stew with potato pancakes, perfect~
This small shop features a cozy traditional Polish style and specializes in selling traditional Polish dumplings, Pierogi. Nine plump dumplings cost around 7 zloty. My personal favorites are the pork and mushroom fillings. For the adventurous foodies, you can try the Russian dumplings, Pierogi ruskie (potato and salty cheese filling), or fruit-filled dumplings. I take no responsibility for the consequences after tasting them.
Located in the city center, Milkbar offers a wide variety of choices for both breakfast and lunch. The scrambled eggs with bacon we ordered were fluffy and tender, and each bite was filled with happiness. A wonderful day starts with breakfast~
