Best Postcard Photo Spot
Other towns may also offer beautiful scenery, but this spot is one of the few where you can easily capture all the landmark buildings in one shot. It is about 300 meters from the city center, the journey is easy, and it is quite easy to reach on foot. You really don't have to worry about not finding it, because there is only one road around the lake. Just start from the pier and walk along slowly!
Catholic Church Cemetery
Hallstatt has two churches: the Catholic Church (Katholische Pfarre) on the rock wall and the Lutheran Church (Evangelische Pfarrkirche) by the lake. Passing through the cemetery of the Catholic Church, the outer walkway offers a view of the classic church spire. The walkway is quite long, so even though there was a whole tour group taking photos at the same time as us, we still managed to get some good shots.
Skywalk Viewing Platform
There are two ways to reach the Skywalk Viewing Platform: 1. Take the cable car; 2. Hiking trail (it can be slippery in winter, so please be fully prepared before going up).
Hallstatt Ferry
Viewing Hallstatt from the lake offers a great perspective. In winter, there are no small boats available, but you can take the ferry from Hallstatt to Obertraun on the opposite shore. Generally, tourists without a car will take the train to Obertraun and then take the ferry to Hallstatt. We remind everyone not to miss the opportunity to go to the deck and enjoy the scenery.
Skywalk Hiking Trail
The hiking trail is right next to the cable car, on the right-hand side facing the cable car entrance. In winter, snow and ice can be slippery, and there are steep slopes on the trail. It is essential to wear hiking boots (we wore Timberland hiking boots, which were okay but still a bit slippery). Otherwise, it is easy to slip and get stuck halfway, unable to move forward or backward.
