The five major ski resorts in British Columbia, Canada

In 2014, the Australian website "Australian News" created a list of the "Top 10 Snowy Countries in the World" based on temperature. Apart from two places in Antarctica, the list includes three places in Russia, one in Greenland, one in Alaska, and three places in Canada. The starting temperature for the list is minus 61 degrees Celsius, and the places on the list must be inhabited. While ice and snow are abundant in these places, it's hard to imagine exciting winter activities in such cold locations. However, British Columbia is different. As a snowy country, the residents of BC in the winter are probably the happiest and most enthusiastic about ice and snow in the world.

Stuart Park

Stuart Park is located in downtown Kelowna, along the picturesque Okanagan Lake. Kelowna is an inland city in British Columbia with distinct seasons, and the average winter temperature is around -2 degrees Celsius, just right for ice to form. This year marks the 15th year that the Stuart Park outdoor skating rink has been open to the public for free. From 6 AM to 11 PM every day, you can enjoy skating here whenever you like. The skate rental service operates from 11 AM to 8 PM, with rental prices at 3.5 CAD for children and 4.5 CAD for adults. What are you waiting for? Come to Kelowna in winter and enjoy skating!

Apex Mountain Resort

Apex Mountain Resort is located 33 kilometers southwest of Penticton, the largest center in the South Okanagan region. It is renowned for its dry powder snow and World Cup-level freestyle skiing and mogul facilities. The resort has been awarded 'Best Steeps' and 'Best Grooming' by Ski Canada magazine. But here, it's not just about the snow; there's ice too! At Apex Mountain Resort, you can even skate at night on the 1-kilometer-long illuminated scenic skating loop.

Mission

Mission is a district municipality within the Fraser Valley Regional District in British Columbia, located on the north bank of the Fraser River, opposite the city of Abbotsford, about 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. It is part of the Lower Mainland. Mill Pond is a small lake in Mission, and its frozen surface is a favorite among locals in winter. With its natural ice surface, free skating, distant views of Bear Mountain, and nearby forests, it's the perfect place for a friendly game of ice hockey.

Robson Square Ice Rink

The Ice Rink at Robson Square is an outdoor skating rink located in downtown Vancouver. It is open to the public for free every winter from early December until the end of February. The specific hours are from 9 AM to 9 PM from Sunday to Thursday, and extended until 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. The rink has concessions selling snacks and hot drinks, and ice skates can be rented on-site for just 4 Canadian dollars per pair. Children will also be provided with safety helmets.

Joffre Lakes Provincial Park

Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is one of the most beautiful alpine lake parks in British Columbia. Located along the Sea-to-Sky Highway north of Whistler in the Pemberton area, Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is situated along the highway. The park features three beautiful azure lakes, which turn emerald green when frozen in winter. Skating on this fairy-tale-like ice surface makes life feel radiant.
