Georgia culinary guide

Located in the Caucasus region, Georgia is surrounded by mountains and boasts unbeatable natural scenery. It also offers tantalizing cuisine and delicious wines that are sure to captivate you. In this rarely visited land, you will taste flavors that you will never forget.

Vino Underground

This stone-built wine bar is co-owned by eight local wine merchants and offers some of Georgia's latest natural wines. Here you can meet Georgia's top winemakers, and the best pairing is wild asparagus with sumac yogurt and Budeshari red wine.

Poliphonia

This cave-like tavern changes its menu according to the season, and all dishes are authentic traditional Georgian cuisine. Therefore, you might have beet and carrot salad or wild garlic with poached eggs here.

Nikoladzeebis Marani

The owner of this winery, Ramaz Nikoladze, is a leader in the Georgian Slow Food movement. He strictly adheres to the essence of slowness in his winemaking process. The Tsitska white wine, made through biodynamic fermentation, uses no chemicals at any stage, and the grapes are grown without herbicides, making it a 100% natural wine. Additionally, you can also taste the uniquely flavored Tsolikouri white wine directly from the Qvevri clay jars at this winery.

Zgapari Restaurant

This is a family-run small restaurant located by the Dzirula River, famous for its dishes made with mushrooms picked from nearby suburbs. Don't miss the restaurant's roasted chicken with blackberry sauce, the unique flavor will surely leave a lasting impression.

Archil Guniava’s Wine Cellar

You can choose to have lunch at Archil Guniava’s Wine Cellar. The roast chicken with cucumber and tomato salad is very delicious. The naturally fragrant and sweet Tsolikouri white wine, the light-bodied Tsitska and Krakhuna white wines, and the intensely flavored Otskanuri Sapere are all worth trying.

Iago’s Winery

The owners of this winery are a couple, with the husband named Iago Bitarshvili and the wife Marina Kurtanidze, who is the first female winemaker in modern Georgian history. She only produces fresh Chinuri white wine, which pairs perfectly with khinkali dumplings and quail.

Pheasant's Tears Winery

The Shavkapito and Kisi vineyards owned by John Wurdeman and Gala Patalishvili offer a distant view of the Sighnaghi mountains. The restaurant's smoked Sulguni cheese cornbread and beets with wild plums are both very delicious.

Gabriadze

At the café next to the old clock tower, there is decaffeinated coffee, and the donuts are great. The location is good, but the service is mediocre.

Abajuri Cafe

The location is relatively hidden, with only an iron gate entrance along the street. After entering, go up to the second floor from the courtyard. The cheese puff pastry roll is amazing, and the red wine stewed pear tastes just right. The environment is great!
Okro’s Winery, this is the third restaurant I tried, the taste is much better, and the price is also reasonable. It can be considered a small winery where you can taste wine, visit the cellar, and the view from the rooftop restaurant is also nice.
