Goreme Open-Air Museum
The Goreme Open-Air Museum in the Goreme Valley features over 30 cave churches, with walls adorned with vividly colored frescoes, some of which remain intact. These frescoes were painted on wet lime plaster on the walls using special pigments, mostly depicting biblical stories, as well as simple cross patterns. These frescoes mainly appeared in the 12th-13th centuries.
Rose Valley
Rose Valley, known for its conical, pyramidal, and spire-shaped rock formations, is located within the Göreme National Park to the north. Surrounded by rugged terrain and bizarre rock formations, the valley is bathed in a rosy hue by the sunset's afterglow in the evening, creating a captivating scene. It is not far from the town of Göreme and can be reached by ATV or horseback to the summit, where one can witness the extraordinary moon-like landscape shaped by water flow, floods, and frost erosion, showcasing the wonders of nature. Additionally, hot air balloon rides are available here, offering opportunities to capture spectacular photos.
Pigeon Valley
Pigeon Valley is located near Uchisar (Hisar) and is famous for its colorful pigeon houses. The valley is filled with stone piles and small holes, which upon closer inspection, turn out to be pigeon caves. At dusk, you can witness the spectacular sight of pigeons returning to their nests. You can also buy some pigeon feed to feed them. Additionally, there is a tree adorned with traditional Turkish evil eye charms, which is very interesting. Moreover, there are many stone caves and passages to explore, somewhat resembling the Uchisar Fortress.
Paşabağı
Known as the highest fairy chimney in Cappadocia, Paşabağı is located near Zelve. It features a spacious viewing platform where visitors can admire interesting and charming chimneys in various shapes, such as multi-headed and pointed hats, towering into the sky. These chimneys also encompass ancient churches that are well-preserved. Additionally, the nearby open-air museum is also a popular attraction for tourists.
Devrent Valley
Devrent Valley, located northeast of Goreme town, is the valley with the most eroded landforms in the Cappadocia region. The area is filled with numerous volcanic rock cones, the most famous of which is the camel-shaped rock. However, for protection purposes, these rocks have been fenced off, and visitors can only view them from the outside. Besides this, you can also stroll through the stone forest, experiencing the charm of rocks in various shapes, appreciating their beauty from different angles, and letting your imagination run wild!
