At sunset, you can take backlit photos at the Fisherman's Wharf. Check out the filming location of 'The Left Ear' at Nanmen Bay. From Su Feng Mountain, you can overlook the entire island. There are many delicious foods around Wanxiang Road, Tongting Street, and Sufeng First Road. Because the island is at the border of Fujian and Guangdong, the Chaozhou cuisine and Minnan cuisine on the island are very authentic. There are also many fruits that are especially sweet. If you are driving, you can stay at Jinluan Bay; you don't necessarily have to stay in Tongling Town. For transportation, you can take a direct bus to Dongshan Island from the Xiang'an Airport Bus Terminal after arriving at Xiamen Airport. Alternatively, you can get off at Zhangzhou East Station by high-speed rail, take bus No. 8 to Zhangzhou New Town Station, and then take a direct bus to Dongshan Island.
Volcano Island Tourism and Leisure Resort
The island is filled with unique geological landscapes, perfect for strolling and taking photos. You can also take an electric car around the island for 3 USD per person, or 1 USD per person if you get on midway. The car stops on request, allowing you to get on and off as you please. The Monument Valley Geology Museum and Rainbow Mountain are great for photos. It is recommended to stay at the Haitu Guesthouse on Volcano Island, a pure white standalone building by the sea, known as the 'Little Santorini.' Be sure to wear a straw hat, carry a woven bag, and wear a vacation-style dress for the perfect look. For transportation, take bus route 605 from Zhangzhou Port and tell the driver you are going to Volcano Island (carpooling is also an option).
Also known as Haitan Island, you can see the 'Blue Tears' phenomenon in April and May, where the entire sea glows with a blue fluorescence at night, which is very stunning. In the afternoon, you can watch athletes practicing kite surfing on the beach at Hongyan Villa, which is super cool. To watch the sunset, you must go to Xiangbi Bay. The ring road around the island is very smooth, and renting an electric bike to ride around is extremely enjoyable. For sand sliding, you can go to 'Phoenix Mountain,' which can be found on the map. As for transportation, you can take a high-speed train from Quanzhou to Fuqing, and then transfer to a bus to Pingtan.
Dayushan Island
Camping on the island offers a view of the starry sky and the Milky Way. There are four camping spots on the island: Yangguwei, Moon Bay, Ambassador Bay Beach, and Peach Blossom Valley. From Moon Bay to Dongjiao Village, there is a large loop road around the island that must be walked. There are tea gardens on the Great and Small Tianhu Lakes, and even the air is sweet. The most accommodation options are in Mazucun on the island, and the best spot to watch the sunrise is in Zaoao Village, where there are only about 10 guesthouses, so it can be quite tight. Dayushan Island is very large, so it is best to plan a two-day, one-night trip to experience it leisurely. For transportation, first take the high-speed train to Fuding Station, then take a car to Yujing Wharf, and from the wharf, take a passenger boat for about 30 minutes to reach Dayushan Island.
Zhenhai Cape
The red and white lighthouse, RVs, swings, and green grass by the sea are all in one place. Just ask the locals for directions. There are few shops on the island, so bringing your own food for a picnic is really great. In the morning, you can see fishermen harvesting oysters at the pier. It is highly recommended to wear brightly colored clothes to match the blue sea, green forest, and yellowish-brown sandy reefs for better photos. It's best to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the paths at Zhenhai Cape are well-trodden. For transportation, take a bus from Zhangzhou Bus Terminal to Zhenhai Village. After getting off, it's still 3 kilometers to Zhenhai Cape, so you can take a motorcycle taxi or carpool.
