Go to the old restaurant in Xiguan to find the old taste in the memory of Guangzhou people

The lush fine-leaved banyan trees on both sides of the street, the stone archway and the bluestone road at the alley entrance, the deep wood color on the old house's double-hung doors, and numerous old shops named with "X" remind you that this is the legendary "Xiguan".

Tao Tao Ju

The grand golden lacquer plaque at the entrance, with a small inscription beside it reading 'Inscribed by Kang Youwei of Nanhai.' It is said that Kang Youwei often came here for tea while lecturing in Guangzhou, and at the owner's invitation, he inscribed these words. During the Republic of China period, Lu Xun and Ba Jin were also frequent guests here.

Lian Xiang Lou

Lian Xiang Lou started with pastries, originally a pastry shop called 'Gao Su Guan'. In the 15th year of Guangxu (1889), it was renamed 'Lian Xiang Lou', and it became famous for its lotus seed paste pastries. In the 2nd year of Xuantong (1910), a Hanlin scholar named Chen Yueru tasted the lotus seed paste pastries here and was deeply impressed by their delicate flavor. He then wrote the three characters 'Lian Xiang Lou', and the shop was subsequently renamed 'Lian Xiang Lou'.

Guangzhou Restaurant

The signature dish 'Wenchang Chicken' is a must-try. The chicken skin is smooth, and the meat is tender and succulent, meeting high standards.

Panxi Restaurant

Panxi Restaurant is one of the three major garden restaurants in Guangzhou. Compared to Nanyuan and Beiyuan, Panxi, located by Liwan Lake, enjoys the natural advantage of picturesque scenery with its lake views, mountains, and traditional Chinese boats.

Xiangqun Restaurant

Xiangqun gives an impression that matches its name: simple, direct, and without any frills, representing another side of the everyday practicality of old Guangzhou residents. There are no carved beams or painted rafters, no literary elegance, and the facade is so plain that you might miss it if you're not paying attention.
