The Sacred Heart Cathedral was founded in 1863 and took 25 years to complete. It is the most magnificent and distinctive cathedral in the Catholic Diocese of Guangzhou. Because all the walls and pillars of the church are built with granite, it is also known as the 'Stone House' or 'Sacred Heart Stone House Cathedral'. It is one of the four all-stone Gothic cathedrals in the world, the other three being Notre-Dame de Paris, Westminster Abbey, and Cologne Cathedral.
