When mentioning Helsinki, most people's deepest impression is definitely the Helsinki Cathedral, also known as the White Church. The cathedral is the most famous building in Helsinki, located at Senate Square, and is a Lutheran church.
Senaatintori
Senate Square is the historical center of Finland and also the center of Finnish neoclassicism. It was completed between 1818 and 1852, designed by C.L. Engel. It includes the Cathedral, the Senate, the City Administration, and the University of Helsinki and its library, all of which are representative works of neoclassicism. The oldest rock building in Helsinki is also located here.
Finnish Parliament House
The Finnish Parliament House is located on Mannerheimintie, built in 1926 and completed in 1936. The Parliament House is very solemn and majestic, with its exterior walls made of red granite and fourteen gray granite columns standing outside. In front of the Parliament House, there is a lawn where many people lie down and enjoy the sun in the summer.
This is a representative neighborhood of Art Nouveau architecture. If you like this architectural style, you might want to take a stroll and appreciate it.
Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral
The Uspenski Cathedral is another famous church in Helsinki besides the White Church. It is the largest Orthodox church on the Scandinavian Peninsula, completed in 1868 and renovated on its centenary.
