The mysterious small town by the Aegean Sea, Izmir

Kadifekale Castle

Alexander the Great rebuilt the ancient city of Smyrna on Mount Pagus in the modern city center. The original fortifications still stand atop the mountain, preserving the general appearance of the walls built by Lysimachus. Standing on the walls feels like being on a magnificent lookout, offering a panoramic view of the streets of Izmir and the Izmir Bay, especially stunning at sunset.
This museum exhibits some of the artifacts unearthed from the Pergamon site and showcases the living scenes of people at that time. There are many sculptures from the ancient Greek period, and the beautiful mosaic floors are also impressive.

Ahmet Pristina City Archive & Museum

This is a city archive and museum, converted from an old fire station in the city center. Here you can learn about the history of Izmir and the history of olive oil production. Especially regarding some historical events, you can see different interpretations by the Turkish people. In addition to physical exhibits, there are detailed graphic and text introductions.

St. Jean Church

This is a famous site of the St. Jean Church. It is said that Jean visited twice, and it is widely recognized that Jean's remains are in a 4th-century tomb within the church. Therefore, in the 6th century, the Byzantine Emperor Justinian built this magnificent church over the tomb.
