If you want to see the whirling dance, you have to go to its hometown Konya. It's free and open on weekends, but unfortunately I arrived on a Wednesday. However, I saw it at an outdoor restaurant next to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, but it was just a solo performance. It's not comparable to the one in Konya. I personally feel that it's difficult to understand due to the different cultures.
When taking a ferry across the strait, I watched this whirling dance performance on the ship.
It's a matter of personal preference. To turn around like a puppet.
