In many places in the United States, it is best not to use a card to make purchases (especially if you are friends from the mainland). There have been cases of repeated charges.
Call your bank and coordinate the handling. I have always used cash to refuel and eat.
It is suggested to pay for gas with cash and give a deposit of around 30 to 40 dollars first. Settle the account on time after finishing the gas. This way, the fund is safe.
You can find a gas station, or call the bank and explain the situation to request a transaction reversal.
