The northern starting point of the Romantic Road is Würzburg, and it goes south, passing through Rothenburg on the Tauber River, Dinkelsbühl, Augsburg, Ulm, and finally reaching the southernmost Füssen.
I heard it's the road from Munich to Frankfurt, that's just what I heard, for reference only.
You can choose to rent a car in Frankfurt and drive to Wurzburg (the starting point of the Romantic Road, where you can buy a 14-day pass for the Bavarian Palaces at the Royal Palace, which can be used immediately, saving time and money along the way), Rothenburg (where you can stay for a night), Nuremberg (if time permits), Ulm, Munich (Nymphenburg Palace, Munich Palace), and finally arrive in Fussen, where the Neuschwanstein Castle is located.
