Have been using Garmin for all my overseas Road trips. It's really user-friendly and have never encountered any problems so far in US, Canada and New Zealand. Australia and New Zealand are covered in one map pack so shouldn't have any issues. I'm leaving on 15th October and will be on the road for a month.

Just buy a phone card on Taobao, you don't have to buy it when you get here Telstra's signal is better
