I drove from Christchurch to Queenstown yesterday. I started at 11:30 am and arrived at 7:00 pm. There were a lot of cars on the road the whole journey, and the outdoor temperature was around 3-5 degrees the whole journey. There was slight icing in some mountainous areas, but it did not affect driving. I kept my speed at around 80-100 km/h the whole journey, and did not put on snow chains (but I had prepared them). There was no skidding, so don't worry. The scenery was very beautiful compared to summer.
