In November, North Island should be warmer. When I arrived in Auckland at the end of September, I was only wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants for travel. I just drove back to Christchurch from Dunedin and Queenstown in the (southern) South Island. If it's cloudy, it's a bit cold (I put on a thin down jacket), but otherwise I wear a sweater with a T-shirt. We didn't go skiing in the Mount Cook National Park or around Queenstown.
