At the roadside rice meter, buy parking time, then get a ticket, and place it under the front windshield.

In the downtown area, parking is charged by the meter, but it is free from evening to morning. There are clear signs on the roadside.

Basic parking lots have self-service ticket machines, but I don't know why I have to spend this money... My suggestion is to find a small street in a residential area, park casually, and don't spend money... We booked a residential house very close to the city center on Airbnb, and the next day the car was parked on the owner's street, and we walked to visit the attractions, and no one cared when we came back. Reykjavik is very small, and you can definitely visit the main attractions on foot.
