Is accommodation in hotels in New Zealand strict? Do we really need to find a four-person room for two adults and two children aged 6 and 8 ?

It's best to communicate with the platform and hotel in advance or send an email yourself to avoid unexpected fees being added in the store.
Homestay may be stricter and may reject your accommodation or charge extra. Foreigners tend to abide by the rules. And some of their beds are not big. If you stay at a hotel, you should check the policy and see how many children you can bring. However, the self-service breakfast will cost extra.
