Yes, Sunday is free, but it's usually hard to find a parking space in popular areas... Another important issue in Italy is the restricted traffic zone, because on Sundays you can't enter the restricted traffic zone if you're not a local, unless you stay at a hotel in that area and have the hotel call the police or traffic office to cancel it for you, or you can buy a pass or something, that card is also okay.
