One hour in advance, no security check, only ticket check

As a previous group member said, 30-40 minutes in advance is enough. We took the ferry in Athens, Crete, Santorini, and Mykonos, and there were ticketing points at the ports. It's faster to print the tickets online in advance, of course. The most important thing is that there are usually two or three boats at the big ports that passengers can board at the same time. The boarding speed on small islands is very fast. The last car on board doesn't wait for everyone to park their car before sailing. So when you arrive at the port, be sure to find the staff and wait in line at the designated location.

Aren't you going to Zakynthos? Patras can also be reached by ferry, you can board about 30-40 minutes in advance.
