Do you guys in the group have the same situation as me, where you fly with Eastern Airlines to Sydney and then transfer to Air New Zealand to Christchurch? Do you need to take your luggage out for customs clearance and re-check in in Sydney? Is there a dedicated transit channel ?

Luggage, if you can go directly to your destination when getting on the plane, you don't need to pick up your luggage. Just ask yourself! Special planes have special channels!

If you have a connecting ticket, you can ask for your luggage to be transferred directly to your destination when checking in.
